this only happens when a book or notebook is copied from the glass with the feeder down. Plain sheet of paper on the glass is fine. You can apply pressure to the platen glass cover on the return scan the drive belt slips and the motor chatters, and it will code out. The only metal is the the rail the scanner rides on and it didnt looked bent, and the platen glass appeared to still be attached to the cover. Has anyone else seen this. I really dont want to order the scanner rail and platen glass/top cover assy.
