Hi there!
Since we have a lot of new generation-MPC´s in the field, i´m updating the fw when a servicecall comes in. The fw´s for MPC 305spf,3002,3502,4502 &5502 are on a 2GB-SD-card (Panasonic). In 6 months never any problems with updating 3002,3402 & 5502. Then, last week i had to upgrade a 4502. Inserting card, waiting..., then clicking on the the files. After 2 minutes the machine want´s to load the GW-files and nothing happens. I wait 10 minutes, nothing. After 20 minutes i call the Ricoh-hotline and was not amused to hear, that i have to wait and not to turn the machine out!!!! 35 minutes later i go crazy and turned off the machine. Then i loaded only the fw of 4502 on another SD-card, put it in the slot and turned on. "preparing to start firmware-update" for over 8 minutes! Now what? Killed the controller or NVRAM? Turned off again, pulled the powercord, wait 1 minute and put it on again. Then the wonder occurs, the fw-update runs without any problem. Can´t imagine how lucky i was, ´cause it was friday-afternoon!
Some days later fw-upgrade on a 5502, no problems. One day later another 4502 with fax-option had to be updated. I must have a ram-clear, cause i took the same card with all the fw-files and guess what: the same fu.. as on that bloody friday! But, doing the same (dangerous) procedure the fw-update was OK.
As a lesson for me and my co-workers we now put only the fw for the specific model on the card!!!
Greetings...
